Help Finding My Tyre Size - Michelin Easy Grip Snow Chains
If your vehicle is a car the code on the side of your tyre will begin with a P which denotes Passenger Car.
The next 3-digits denote the "nominal section width" of the tyre in millimetres; the widest point from both of the outer edges.
The next 2-digits indicate the "aspect ratio" of the sidewall height to the total width of the tyre, as a percentage.
All modern tyres will be marked with an R, for radial construction. Classic / older vehicles may have cross ply tyres but these were phased out in the 1970's.
The final 2-digits denote the diameter of the wheel in inches that the tyres are designed to fit.
If the tyres on a BMW Mini Cooper were labeled P195/55/R16 then the following applies:
- P - It's a passenger vehicle
- 195 – The width of the tyre at its widest point is 195 mm
- 55 – The height of the tyres sidewall is 55% of the tyres width
- R – Denotes that it is a radial tyre
- 16 – Denotes that that the tyre is for a 16 inch diameter wheel
