Porsche people are well known for being passionate about both the brand and their cars. It was no different for this customer! Having bought his first Porsche at the tender age of twenty three and having owned several over the years his latest acquisition is, as he puts it, “a keeper; the perfect mid-point between a true road car and a true race car”. The 911 Carrera 4 GTS offers the best of both worlds. In the words of Jeremy Clarkson:

The customer feels exactly the same way!
There’s an industry rumour that the next generation of 911, the 992, is going to be entirely turbo-charged so they’ll be smaller, cleaner and more fuel efficient. But I really wanted the naturally aspirated flat six engine configuration, and as this could be the last of them, I just had to have one! – Dean R, GTS Owner
Having researched the options for a New Car Protection Treatment, the customer decided his best option was to book his car into an independent detailing studio.
During my initial research it appeared that many detailing studios were tied in to one manufacturer. By going to UF, I knew that the products would be carefully matched according to the type of paint and the use that the car was going to get. This car isn’t a daily driver, but equally I don’t have a lot of time to spend cleaning it every weekend. I explained all this to UF and listened to their recommendations before I made my choice. – Dean R, GTS Owner
Initially the 911 was treated with Gtechniq W6 Iron & General Fallout Remover. This gets to work on bonded ferrous contamination and general grime the bodywork and wheels may have collected on its journey from the factory to the dealership and then on to the detailing studio. By dissolving the bonds the contamination has formed with the substrate the particles can then be easily and safely rinsed away.
Then the bodywork and wheels were degreased with Gtechniq W5 All Purpose Citrus Cleaner to remove any oily road grime splattered up from the roads. Finally the car was pre-cleaned with Ultimate Snow Foam, a non-contact cleaner which produces a thick foam when used in conjunction with a pressure washer. The foam lifts larger particles of dirt and grit away from the surface of the paintwork and allows them to be freely rinsed away.
Thoroughly decontaminated the 911 was then given a full wash using the Two Bucket Method, Gtechniq G-Wash and an Ulti-Mitt Double Sided Merino Wash Mitt. Once the suds were rinsed away an Aqua Gleam De-ionising water filter was connected to the hose to give the 911 a final, pure water rinse. After being dried with soft microfibres the 911 was brought into the studio to be inspected under high intensity lighting.
Even when a car is in for a New Car Protection Treatment we always check the condition of the paintwork first. Unfortunately it’s not uncommon to see brand new cars with substantial swirls and scratches in the paintwork and you don’t want to seal those in! This 911 was spotless though so it was a true New Car Protection, in as much as no corrective machine polishing was required. – Derek Ginger, Master Detailer, UF Detailing Studio
To ensure the paintwork displayed optimum clarity, it was lightly polished by hand using PolishAngel Esclate Lotion on an Auto Finesse Dual Applicator. Esclate is a highly effective paint cleaner which improves the shine and colour intensity of paintwork without the use of fillers. Then the bodywork and wheels were wiped with Gtechniq Panel Wipe to ensure any residues that might interfere with the sealant’s bonding process were removed.
To seal the paintwork the customer chose Gtechniq CS Black. This involves an initial layer of Gtechniq’s most advanced, durable and swirl resistant nanotechnology-based sealant. This sealant in itself offers a dual layer protection: the lower layer cures to a hardness of around 7h (on the pencil hardness scale) providing a flexible base. The upper layer cures to a hardness of around 9h, providing an incredibly tough surface resistant to both swirls and extremes of pH. In order to be fully effective Crystal Serum has to be applied in tightly controlled conditions but, once cured is very difficult to remove. For this reason Crystal Serum is available only as a service through Gtechniq-approved detailing studios and is accompanied with a seven-year performance guarantee.
After Crystal Serum had cured for around 4 hours, the paintwork was overcoated with Gtechniq EXO v2. This top layer sealant adds an extra level of slickness whilst increasing the hydrophobic properties of the final finish.
The wheels were sealed using Gtechniq C5 Alloy Wheel Armour, a nanotechnology-based coating resistant to high temperatures. Treated surfaces repel dirt, water, oils and inhibit the build-up of brake dust and fallout deposits, making them easier to maintain with the weekly wash.
The trim was protected using Gtechniq Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer. This sealant forms a strong chemical bond with the trim, protecting it from UV fade and repelling contaminants.
I wanted a really good sealant for the trim as I’d previously experienced problems with lesser products. I once collected a car and drove it home in the rain to discover the trim black product had completely washed away. Unfortunately it also revealed that the dealership had contaminated the black trim with polish as there were white stains all over it. I wanted a sealant that wasn’t going to wash away and run down the white paintwork. – Dean R, GTS Owner
The glass was cleaned using Gtechniq G6 Perfect Glass before being cleansed and sealed with Gtechniq G1 ClearVision Smart Glass. This sealant forms a hydrophobic barrier which causes rain water to roll in to beads on contact. These then blow away whilst the car is driving even at relatively low speeds.
For the final touch the tyres were treated with Gtechniq T2 Tyre Dressing, a non-sling formulation which leaves a natural satin sheen. The customer had previously experienced tyre sling with a dealership applied product and was relieved to hear he wasn’t going to experience the same problem!
When the customer arrived to pick up his car the British Summer was in full affect; cloudy and drizzly! The reflection on the paintwork was still in evidence though!
When I collected the car it was really grey and overcast, but the car still looked stunning even without the aid of sunshine! I was convinced that by the time I got it home it wouldn’t look as good as it had started to spit with rain and the roads were throwing up lots of grime. However, when I got it home I was really impressed with how clean it still looked! When I tried to put the car cover on the finish was so slick that the cover kept sliding off the roof of the car. I’d never had a problem like it – I had to laugh! – Dean R, GTS Owner
