Hi there, my car is a 1983 VW Golf Mk1. I carried out this detail so as to prep the car for winter and get it looking its best.
The car was not filthy as such before, but certainly needed a good clean. The washing process was as follows: I started with the wheels, using Meguiar's All Wheel Cleaner front and rear to combat brake dust. First, a rinse with the PW to remove any dust and light dirt.
Then, with the soap bottle on the PW, I covered the car in APC so as to minimise the surface dirt when washing the car using the two bucket method. Next, I foamed the car with the Meguiar’s NXT wash. After this, I washed the car using a lambswool mitt and the two bucket method, with grit guards so as to minimise scratching the paintwork.
Then, while the car was still wet, I clayed it using the Meguiar’s smooth surface clay kit. I find this to be very good value for money and the clay was strong enough to remove all the bonded contaminants. After this, I dried he car using a flunkey.
Next step was polishing using AG Super Resin Polish and the Meguiar’s foam pads by hand. This achieved a great result in itself, and the next step was to apply a coat of AG HD Wax on the car. I think this wax is amazing and well worth the money.
Beading is excellent and the depth of shine on the paint is awesome. Last steps were to dress the tyres and the plastics/bumpers.
